Being a quick thinker has its own perks. You come across as smart and intelligent. Replying faster makes you more creative, energetic, and generally happier. Besides, your brain will become sharper. There are several things you can do to become a fast thinker. Here are some
Avoid multi-tasking
No matter how much multi-tasking is glorified, it doesn’t help you in any way, except tiring you. Your brain isn’t programmed to handle multiple tasks at once. Research shows that multitasking can make you less productive. It decreases one’s ability to learn, attention span, and mental performance. So if you wish to train your brain to think faster, avoid multi-tasking
Laugh more and get some exercise
Laughter can cure most problems. It can reduce stress hormones in the brain, thus resulting in improved short-term memory function.
Exercise is the solution to most problems, and also a tool to enhance brainpower.Any kind of bodily movement aids quicker learning, improves focus, and the power to recall. A Swedish study concluded that increased cardiovascular movement made people more intelligent.
Encourage yourself to think faster in small things
Start challenging yourself to make decisions faster in day-to-day activities. For example, at a restaurant, choose your meal quicker than usual. Similarly, choose your attire for the day faster, which juice to have, where to go out, etc. quicker. This will train your brain to think faster, and gradually you will start to think faster in other aspects of life as well.
Get ample sleep; meditate
Good sleep is not only beneficial for the body but also important for the brain as well. Sound sleep helps the brain to think faster and more accurately.
Meditation can help your brain to separate important things from the not-so-important. Meditation improves focus and ignores unnecessary clutter. Your brain then learns to respond better to important things.
Play puzzles; learn a musical instrument
Play more puzzle games and challenge your brain with brain teasers. Such activities stimulate the brain cells and help the brain to think faster in various situations.
Another way can be learning to play a musical instrument. It enhances memory, cognitive skills and increases the brain’s processing power. The guitar is known to sharpen your brain and improve its response time.
Poor Nutrition
Think back to the car analogy we used earlier. Proper nutrition is like giving your vehicle the right type of fuel so it can run smoothly.
When you consume too much sugar, dairy, wheat, and other allergens, it’s terrible for your brain and your speed of thinking.
No one diet will work for everyone, so part of your research into how to think faster will involve trying out elimination diets, rotation diets, and just generally experimenting to see what type of foods make you feel (and perform) your best.
I personally cleaned up my dietary act. I got rid of the booze, wheat, sugar, dairy… and my life changed. My brain got so much sharper. So much faster. And my memory improved, too.
I know we can’t make everyone do the same, but I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to convince you why it’s so important.
Mental and Physical Injuries
Back at the beginning of 2020, I hurt my shoulder. It took me a while to get back to the gym, and while I was working through the injury it impacted my thinking speed.
Harvard Health shared findings showing that “moderate-intensity exercise can help improve your thinking and memory in just six months.” There are both direct and indirect impacts: physiological changes as well as indirect action on the brain itself.
Both physical injury and brain injury can slow thinking. When I developed bursitis in my shoulder, I noticed a dramatic reduction in my memory capacity. I did a podcast interview and made a mistake in one of my memory demonstrations.
Now, this might not seem like a big deal to some of you, but I very rarely make mistakes when it comes to memory. I’m sure it came from the injury because I was very slow and foggy at the time.
Once I could get through physical therapy and get back to the gym, I felt so much sharper. It was like night and day.
